Hello again..
Day 4: (Alabama to Texas)
Our drive yesterday started in Mobile, Alabama and ended in Houston, TX. It was supposed to be a 7.5 hour drive that turned into 11 hours, but in the end driving that amount of time was completely worth it as soon as we pulled up in front of Kurt's house. During the drive through Lousiana,on our way to Texas, we are able to drive through Downtown New Orleans. It was neat to see the Superdome and other parts of the city. One of the most shocking things we saw in New Orleans was how many homes, shops, and buildings, were still destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. It was shocking to see churches without roofs and houses with nothing left but a portion of their frame. Some of the sights in New Orleans were devastating. After we drove through Lousiana we were FINALLY in Texas. After crossing the TX border, Kurt and I stopped to fill my gas tank up.. The gas station that we went to had all of the gas stations occupied by other cars. While driving around to find someone to pull in behind and wait to move, there was a lady who was not pumping her gas but was instead FILING HER NAILs while sitting on the bummer of her red explorer. At first Kurt and I thought that she might be waiting for someone who was inside the store... but after 10 minutes of waiting for a pump she was still waiting at the pump.. doing nothing but sitting in her car. How frustrating :( Around 9pm we arrived at Kurt's house, exhausted and very excited to see his family. After a little bit of catching up we all headed to bed. O yeah, just in case anyone wants to know.. the temperature when we got here last night was in the upper 60s and today's forecast was in the upper 70s.
The only weird part of visiting in Texas is thinking about Sunday. When we leave on Sunday we are not going to drive back to Virginia.. Instead, we are going to beginning the new part of our journey. I am so nervous to start in a new place, but I know everything will work out the way it should.
Kurt & I love and miss everyone very much <3
